What’s up Saints! Welcome back to The Shipp Show (with two p’s and no t) – The podcast brought to you by Maryville University President Dan Shipp and Maryville University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President Justin Brewer. It is a new year which means a new season of The Shipp Show. In 2026, Dan and Justin decided to take a bit of a new approach. While athletics are very important to talk about and highlight, Maryville’s community spans far beyond athletics and it is important to highlight the one-of-a-kind people that make the Maryville community what it is. This semester, they will be using this platform to highlight some of those individuals.
In this episode, Dan and Justin interviewed the second special guest of this series, Dr. Crystal Weaver. She is the Director of the Music Therapy program at Maryville University. Additionally, she is a board-certified music therapist, a certified rehabilitation counselor, and a licensed professional counselor with an additional master’s in health administration. Dr. Weaver has co-authored over 35 research study abstracts that have been presented at regional, national, and international conferences (including the American Music Therapy Association National Conference, the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Research Congress, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Annual Conference, and the International Federation of Head and Neck Cancer Oncologic Societies World Congress). On top of that she is the lead for the Kids Rock Cancer program. This program, which helps children cope with unique emotional challenges that accompany a diagnosis of cancer and other blood disorders, provides hands-on learning for students in Maryville’s music therapy program.
Dan and Justin thoroughly enjoyed getting to chat with and learn about Dr. Weaver. They can’t wait to highlight more amazing people in the Maryville community.
