There’s something so exciting about walking into a bookshop—the smell of freshly printed books and coffee, the colorful array of books, the community of readers, and the vast selection awaiting any customer. In this article series, I’ll be exploring the different bookshops around the St. Louis area to discover the selections, atmosphere, and goodies that fill each space. Whether you’re a lifelong local or a curious traveler, come with me as we crack open the charm of STL one bookstore at a time!
Our first adventure takes place at Betty’s Books in Webster Groves, Missouri. This bookshop is the perfect place for young families, teens, and lovers of comics! Filled from floor to ceiling with life and color, this shop has a little piece of something for all young adults and families. One of the things I loved most about this shop was how much of an effort the owners made to be inclusive with what they sell and how they sell it. With several of their book selections, there were descriptions and synopses of the books along with an explanation of how they are inclusive, which helped to create more of a love for their products.
Not a big reader? No problem! Not only does this shop offer a great selection of books, but it also offers beautifully homemade candles, stationery cards, bookmarks, keychains, arts & crafts, and more! It was a lot of fun getting to explore their different products and think of how they might serve as good gifts for loved ones!

The best part about this shop is how welcoming it is with their seating areas. Whether you feel like sitting among the stacks or hanging out in the dining area, it’s all a part of the perfect cozy environment to grab one of their pastries, a matcha or coffee, and read a good book or get some work done.
While I didn’t personally find any book in this shop that particularly appealed to me and my tastes, it’s the perfect place to explore if you want to get into graphic novels, get your child or younger sibling into reading, or to just grab a tasty treat and get some work done!

Go check out this cute shop to support a fun, small STL business filled with life and tune in next time for our next adventure!
